Virginia will actually have a spring football game: Thank you, Tony Elliott!

FootballIt’s been so long since Virginia had a real spring football game that I can’t remember being there.

New coach Tony Elliott comes from Clemson, big boys football, where spring games approach sold-out crowds to watch a scrimmage.

And he wants to try to move things forward in that regard on Grounds.

The program announces that a spring match is scheduled for Saturday, April 23.

The Virginia Athletics release actually called it “its annual spring game.”

Sorry, but whatever Bronco Mendenhall did, and Mike London and Al Groh before him, wasn’t a spring game, so there’s nothing “annual” about it.

And no, for those who want to be sarcastic about it, that last spring thing practice that Mendenhall consented to last year, not a spring football game.

Admission to the event will be free.
