Jeff Cole (1974-2004) was an assistant coach at the University of Maine for six years. “Coleman” is best known for his passion for life and football, his commitment to education and his love for family and friends. Cole died on October 18, 2004 after a years-long battle with cancer.

Cole was an outstanding role model and trainer. During his tenure with the Black Bears, he coached running back, tight end and wide receiver. He also served as the team’s special teams coordinator. His impact on the young men he coached as a teacher, mentor and friend was immeasurable.

An endowed foundation was established in Cole’s memory. The mission of the Jeff Cole Foundation is to raise funds for the purpose of providing scholarships to graduates of Avon High School (Avon, New York) who plan to study education or history; otherwise promote the value of higher education; and supporting high school and intercollegiate athletics to better commemorate his life.
