TV coverage, football game time

Ohio State may have two young quarterbacks, CJ Stroud and Kyle McCord, but they have the luxury of pitching to two of the Big Ten’s top wide receivers to help correct mistakes.

Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson can give adjustments to opposing defensive backs, and Rutgers secondary will be the next unit tested when the Scarlet Knights face the No.10 Buckeyes at SHI Stadium.

The 6-foot, 192-pound Wilson caught 23 passes for 391 yards, second in the Big Ten and three touchdowns in Ohio State’s first four games. He finished the shortened 2020 season with 723 yards on 43 catches with six touchdowns in eight games.

Olave caught 18 passes for 255 yards (ninth in the conference) and three touchdowns. The 6-foot-1, 188-pound Olave averaged 104.1 receiving yards in 2020, second in the Big Ten behind Purdue’s David Bell, who averaged 104.2.

Wilson and Olave each tallied over 100 receiving yards in Ohio State’s 35-28 loss to Oregon, the Buckeyes’ only loss this season.

Ohio State was also able to open the passing game because true first-year rookie TreVeyon Henderson was stellar. Henderson, a five-star prospect and the nation’s highest-ranked running back and the No. 23 rookie in the class of 2021 according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, rushed for 439 yards on 46 carries (9.5 per attempt ) with six touchdowns.

One game, however, is a big part of that output: Henderson ran for 277 yards on 24 carries with three touchdowns in the Buckeyes’ 41-20 win over Tulsa on September 18.

So whoever starts off – Ohio State coach Ryan Day told reporters on Tuesday that Stroud starts against Rutgers while he’s healthy – will be surrounded by a lot of guns.

Weapons that Rutgers’ defense, which has been strong so far this season, will have to shut down.
